Pnina Tornai

A little love for Fashion Friday!

I absolutely just love Pnina Tornai - actually, being obsessed with is the more appropriate term. If you haven't already heard of her, you should definitely tune in to "Say Yes to the Dress" on TLC as she frequently has her gowns featured on the show! Brides just love the sexy va-va-voom!

For Pnina, it's all about the curves and accenting a women's body! And she's no junior! Pnina has been designing gorgeous gowns for 17 years - and she is one of the top designers in New York!

You may or may not be surprised to learn that the dress below, was a HUGE hit for Pnina! I think more specifically it was the unique bodice that rocked the brides! Brides want to feel sexy and impress the most important person of their wedding day... their groom!

Here's a video of Pnina's 2010 Fashion show with a little interview of the amazing designer!

ENJOY!

We are, once again, thrilled to announce one of our Guest Speakers for the 2010 Bridal Boudoir Affair!

Pascale Jacquin, Editor-in-chief, Mariage Québec, will be joining her Toronto counterpart, Alison McGill of Weddingbells Magazine, at the 2010 Bridal Boudoir Affair!

After completing her journalism degree at Concordia University, Pascale Jacquin did an internship at Elle Québec and was asked, after only a few months, to write articles for the magazine and website, as well as weekly chronicles for Voir newspaper.
She then replaced Elle Quebec’s beauty and health editor during her sick leave and was offered the beauty editor’s position for Elle Québec Girl. She remained there until the magazine closed in November 2007. After working as a freelancer for magazines such as Coup de Pouce, Loulou, Pure, La Voix du Succès and Clin d’Oeil, Pascale was given the opportunity to replace the beauty, fashion, decor and gardening editor at Coup de Pouce magazine during her maternity leave in 2008.

In January 2009, Pascale learned she was pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in September of that year. She was offered the editor-in-chief’s position for Mariage Québec as soon as she came back from maternity leave and has worked towards its success ever since.

Please join us in welcoming Pascale!

Bringing Home the Bling Bacon

What do I consider to be the most fashion forward move a woman can make?

Buying her own bling!

Ladies, I'm not talking about raiding Forever 21 and coming home with your prized $5 deals (and I ain't knockin' that either - there is a place and time for everything), but there is nothing more satisfying and empowering than buying yourself a completely unnecessary, beautiful, sparkly, expensive object! The kind that rich and powerful New York Tycoons opt for... lavish stones set in cocktail rings, diamond pave earrings, a strand of Tahitian pearls... just because.

The "I love myself" piece that reminds you that you are strong, independent and play the game of life by your own rules! Married, not married, to-be married... doesn't matter - you never need an excuse to spoil yourself - and neither does your man (make sure he knows this ;P).

While I love flowers and chocolates, homemade breakfasts in bed and little secretive surprises, sometimes life calls for a bigger gesture... and who better to treat yourself than you!

When you get there, hold your head high and proud. You got there by yourself and realized something out of nothing!

Girl (Lady) Power!

Boudoir Photography in Montreal - Andrea Hausmann Photography

It's you on a totally new level! Andrea Hausmann Photography is the ultimate in boudoir, burlesque, sexy and tantalizing photography. Everyday women are turned into sexy and strong Diva's at an Andrea Hausmann shoot.

I was inspired the first time I saw her website - I thought, wow, I want pictures just like those for me and for my boyfriend. Our friend Robyn has had pictures taken with Andrea, and they are simply breath taking!

The way their team pampers you, and treats you - it's the ultimate experience! You can go as clothed or not as you'd like - it's simply up to you. In the relaxed environment, you'll have no pressure to take it all off!
It's a little something for you, and if you want... something for your boyfriend/fiance/husband. He'll definitely remember why you two got together in the first place, we guarantee it!

"A photoshoot at the studio means letting yourself be spoiled for a few hours. You’ll have the opportunity to try on fabulous gowns, custom lingerie and drape yourself with jewels, all the while sipping bubbly and nibbling treats. The goal is to inspire you to explore and reveal a side of yourself that is not seen everyday. The experience is made complete with a custom wardrobe, make-up artist, hairstylist, and the wonderful space that is my studio. "

Reviews by real women:

"Thanks a million for making me look and feel gorgeous. Everyone agrees this has been the best pictures of me ever!" ~Mallory

"I had such a blast hanging out in your studio on the day of my shoot... all the dress up stuff, plus hair and makeup and champagne to sip... it was a very fun time. And on top of it, a set of gorgeous photos to have as a memory for all time - icing on the cake!!" ~Tracey Steer

The Modern Boudoir - At Home!

I love and adore all things boudoir and burlesque... but admittedly it can be hard to incorporate such a vintage approach to life into our modern day lifestyles. While I would love to strut around town in a boned corset, headpieces and dramatic makeup (okay... well maybe I'm already guilty of that...), sometimes they just don't top the practical/ideal list.

The home however, is an escape you can retire to at the end of a long day. A place that can reflect your personal style and allow you to feel your most comfortable. Why not add some gorgeous boudoir appeal to your space and spruce it up via the little things? It's amazing what a well placed mirror, printed cushion, exotic backboard or shag rug can do for small (or large) spaces and bring that glamorous and sexy vibe to your love nest :).

The first staple every boudoir babe MUST own is without question the makeup vanity. There is nothing more feminine and dainty than a place to put your face on while the transformation from woman to goddess begins. A beautiful table with an equally gorgeous mirror topped with perfume bottles, powder puffs and silver plated hairbrushes... *sigh*... Why don't I have one of these yet!?!

Next on the docket... the bed. The most heavenly, satin and silky, puffed up duvets and sheets enclosed by beautiful borders - the most divine palace for love and beauty rest. This (aside from the bathtub) HAS to be the most luxurious part of home living. There is nothing like a decked out soft-as-feathers bed to drift off into dreamland the right way!

Now vintage styled wallpaper is absolutely stunning, but not always the best option for those of us who rent or don't want to spend a small fortune (that stuff ain't cheap!). Instead, opt for some great graphic prints to hang above your bed, fireplace (if your lucky enough to have one) and in the bathroom. Place smaller frames together for a unique "tiled" look or frame some old black and white pictures or movie posters!

Chandeliers, candlesticks and crystal glasses are the next step. A girls gotta have the ambiance and tools to sip some bubbly before a night out on the town!

Eugh I want it all!!! So lovely!

Just picture yourself in slippers and a big fluffy housecoat coming home to any one of these images... it's like a dream realized every time!

It's official... I'm starting my boudoir bedroom hunt! Gotta inject some vintage allure to my pad... hopefully the man won't put up too much of a fight :P

Happy Start to the Week! Keep on Daydreamin'

Fashion Fridays with the Boudoir!

Here are two looks we really love! Both gowns are a bit edgy, yet soft enough to be beautiful bridal wear! What we're loving about this is the POP of colour! It's a classy and simple way to add a little colour or incorporate your theme to your dress.

Need something blue? Show it off with these GORGEOUS gloves! They are perfect for pictures after the ceremony or reception! Easily matching them blue shoes - sex and the city Manolo Blahnik's would be a PERFECT match to these wonderful gloves!

Manolo Blahnik

Speaking about Manolo Blahniks - the Maddy K team found the BEST spot for some great Manolo deals.
About 1 hour north of New York City (and around 4-5hours South of Montreal) lays a fabulous outlet mall called Woodbury Commons. (Or as we often refer to as Mecca!) This amazing place has loads of fashions a amazing prices! Coach is by far the BEST DEAL - we were picking up purses and wallets for a fraction of the CND prices! And of course - we stooped into Manolo Blahniks - it was like heaven on earth!

I highly suggest you go to Woodbury Commons, even if for a day! It's amazing!

Have a great weekend!

Getting the Most out of a Bridal Show

(image from the 2009 Bridal Boudoir Affair)

We're often asked how to "tackle" a bridal show. It's very overwhelming for most brides as there is just so much to see, eat, try and do! Here are a few key steps that will help you make the most of a bridal show.

1. Buy your tickets for the show in advance! Shows usually offer early birds, coupons and promotions before the show, unfortunately at the door... there is no deal!

2. Don't drag your man to the show - that is unless he wants to go! A bridal show is very, how do you say, targeted to women. Although it's great to have your finance with you, if he doesn't want to go... don't drag him!

3.Bring a camera! This is a little trick we tell all our brides! If you see an idea or are inspired by the set-up, it's easier to show your planner what you want when you have pictures to accompany them!

(image from the 2009 Bridal Boudoir Affair)

4 . Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be standing almost the entire day, so you want to make sure you're comfortable.

5. Bring a pen and a pad of paper. Taking notes will help you remember what you talked about and who you spoke with. If you get a vendors business card mark a "happy face" or "sad face" if you liked or disliked the vendor - or rate the vendor with a score, from 1-10. It's a easy little trick that will help you remember who you liked!

6. Bring 1 or 2 people, but you definitely don't need to bring the entire bridal party. Having a few key people is important, but too many can make for a crowded and overwhelming experience.

7. Arrive early! Most of the crowds arrive mid-day. Being there early will give you more time with vendors.

8. Don't buy on the spot, but make an appointment shortly after the show. It's easy to get caught up in the moment, but sometimes those "impulse buys" will haunt you. Make an appointment with the vendor after the show.

9. Leave room for snacking, but don't go to a show starving! There are always treats, desserts, drinks and snacks at a show, but there are rarely any meals. If you tend to get hungry, bring an energy bar!

10. Have Fun!!! This is a once in a lifetime experience for you, enjoy the show and relax!

Featherspiration - A girls best friend!

Well hello everyone! I am SO happy to be contributing to this gorgeous blog once a week (gives me a great excuse to dip into my need/addiction for all things glamor)... and can't wait to cover this years Bridal Boudoir via live blogging for all of ya! Hopefully you will enjoy my pictures, tweets and insight on the occasion! Now... on to the post... :)

As I fall further and further down the burlesque/boudoir rabbit hole, I become more and more obsessed with all the different components of beauty that make it so special and enthralling. Little pieces of heaven that bring the Silver Screen to everyday life. From an early age I was always drawn to old Hollywood... a day and age when men were real men, and women were nothing short of ladies. Where being delicate and beautiful was just as important as everything else you had to get done in a day... it was accounted for. Nowadays, most people are lucky if they can dash out the door fully dressed and get to work on time. Indeed, the world is moving much faster... however I beg to differ that we should succumb to the "norm" of neglecting ourselves or not adorning our bodies and lives like we should be. Living without being surrounded by beauty is no life. This weeks finds - feathers! Exactly one of those items that most would consider to be a luxurious and decadent indulgence... but that the boudoir lady would integrate into her life seamlessly...

Be it something you save for a rainy down day to lift your spirits or something as everyday as a headband, every girl needs to sprinkle a little sugar on sometimes! I want to plan a cocktail party and make the above invitations!!!

I have a deep, deep fetish for fake eyelashes (and really don't understand anyone who begs to differ...), they are the simplest way to make a bold statement when you go out for a dinner date with your man of choice (tee hee). Other ways to bring feathers into your life... opt for ostrich feathers instead of flowers (or mix them together) for a beautiful vase centerpiece, feather earrings add a touch of natural/exotic beauty to your look... what about a pink feather pen Elle Woods style? Why not I say!

Have a glamorous Monday... adopt a feather accessory (and you can thank me later)!

The Statement Piece - A Vivienne Westwood Wedding Gown

Brides with something to say, brides that want a statement piece and brides with more than just flowers on their minds look to the always talented designer, Vivienne Westwood. Vivienne Westwood takes bridal to a new level, and is most famous for 2 gorgeous gowns.

1.) Carrie Bradshaw's Sex and the City Gown.

This is just AMAZING! I love the size, the cut and the multi-toned white to off white. It's perfect, and i think it's every little girls "dream dress." Although the price tag for a gown of this nature can cost around $18 000, a girl can always dream!

2. Dita Von Teese’s Purple Wedding Dress

Love it or hate it - we think this dress is fabulous! Coloured wedding dresses are becoming more popular. A white dress is a very western culture tradition that is slowly changing and becoming much more acceptable to have a non-white gown on your wedding day. It's definitely a statement piece!

It's clear that Vivienne Westwood loves big, bold and beautiful gowns! Nothing is too riskay for her and power to the brides who rock these pieces of art!

Now this a piece for the non-traditional bride! Amazing!

And now, a little accent for your Vivienne Westwood Gown.....

Enjoy!
